The voice of Wisdom points to God as the source of wisdom, so wisdom is to be found in the “fear of the Lord” (Job 28:20-28; Prov 1:7; 9:10). Human understanding alone, though it is God given, is not sufficient for wisdom: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Prov 3:5 NIV). The pursuit of knowledge attempted without reference to God is at best precarious and distorted, and if persistently pursued becomes seriously misleading and damaging.
